Closure, Finally

We just got word from the escrow company that our purchase of the lot has closed. We are now the proud owners of a pile of dirt, a rickety shack, and a line of credit to build our house. Anyone who has talked with us since we spotted the for-sale sign in our neighborhood last November knows this has been a long and stressful process, and we haven’t even started building yet.

The attorney we were working with at escrow seemed surprised when we told him that this was our first real estate purchase. “You started with a complicated type of loan,” he told us. That’s for sure. I have no doubt the building process will have its own stresses and complications, but, until we break ground on Saturday, we’re just going to relax and enjoy this lull. And, after we go out for a celebratory dinner tonight, we might even stop by our lot and tour our new tar paper shack.

  1. Congratulations! You are now finally beginning on a path that will save you over $200,000.00 over the life of your mortgage on energy bills alone! That is nearly enough to pay for the whole house, isn’t it!

  2. The little shack is kind of neat. Maybe you should save it.

I’m so happy that you’ve finally gotten past all the preliminaries. Now onto the house building!

Congrats to you both for hanging in there and keeping your cool under all that pressure.

  3. Congratulations! A marathon might have been easier. Now the real fun begins. We can’t wait to see the progression.
