We Raised the First Wall

Today was another big day for our humble zero-energy house. I went over to the site around noon and helped raise the first wall panel, which happened to be the biggest of the bunch, measuring 24 feet in length and weighing a few hundred pounds. Ted Sr. was there to help out and to meet with Bill Wachtler, the executive director of the Structural Insulated Panel Association, who stopped by to check out the project.

In the video, you can see Ted Jr. spraying the mastic and foam that holds the panel in place and makes an airtight seal.

  1. This looks like a job thats going to need windows in the not so far off future. I know Todd has been touching base with Ted. If I can help please let me know. Dave Cromwell, Vinyltek “Energy Efficient” windows. Talk soon.

    • Thanks again, Dave, for helping us meet our net-zero goal. We’re picking out colors for our triple-pane Vinyltek windows now. Our builder says they compare pretty favorably with some of the much-more-expensive windows on the market (like Serious Windows) but at a more down-to-earth price. We can’t wait to see them go in!
